What is the most energy efficient way to heat your home

Homeowners are becoming increasingly aware of the monthly cost of their home heating bills and actively trying to source new energy efficient ways to lower them and make their homes cheaper to run.

Many people have opted for short term fixes, but what about a long term solution?

Currently, a water based underfloor heating system like Polypipe’s is the best replacement for central heating. This is because your radiators need to run at 80 degrees celsius to heat your room – and even then, the heat doesn’t spread evenly. Whereas your underfloor heating runs effectively at 35 degrees celsius. What’s more, because it covers the whole floor surface area instead of just the wall your radiator is mounted on, you won’t be faced with any hot or cold spots. This in turn, means you can avoid constantly having to crank up the thermostat at random times of the day when the house feels cold.

The main benefit of underfloor heating, especially if it’s paired with Polypipe’s Smart Plus range of controls, is that you can programme each day of the week to suit your routine. For example, you can set it to a lower temperature throughout the day and then higher just in time for you returning home.

The Smart Plus range can also ensure that each room never goes above a pre-set temperature, meaning you’ll never have to let heat and money escape through an open window.

Underfloor heating can work on any type of flooring but does require your house to be well insulated – which in turn lowers your energy bills.
